Ok a couple of weeks before Summer of Sonic 2012 (which took place on 7/7/12) I decided to get my nails extended, with 'Sonic' written on one hand, and 'Sega' written on the other.
I sounded my local place out by going in a few times, asking about the prices etc. It was obvious to me they didn't speak good English, so I devised what I thought was a foolproof plan. I was going to merely show them the 'Sonic' and 'Sega' logos I wanted from a Sonic game instruction manual I had, but thought in this situation I had better step up my game incase they dodn't understand this. So I took the liberty of drawing out both a left hand and a right hand (I've had alot of experience drawing hands so these turned out alright) with blank nails, which I filled in with my chosen designs.
The team who did my nails were very quick and very professional. But something I didn't bank on happened. The young Viet guy who was doing the actual art on my nails explained to me that it would be difficult for him to write out the letters from the same perspective as I had drawn them. Basically I had written them out as if they were being read from my perspective. Which, if he had followed, would have meant he would have had to paint the letters upside down. Which he wasn't prepared to do, and I wasn't about to force him to do. And, in any way, I didn't think it would make a difference...
But then I realised that something was wrong pretty soon after he started painting. He did the 'A' on the right ring finger, and I was so caught up in how pretty it looked that I didn't even think. Its when he started doing the 'G' on the ring finger that I clocked he was doing it the wrong way round. Basically he had flipped the letters I had presented him with in my drawing vertically, but hadn't compensated by the text flipping horizontally.
So I ended up with my left hand saying 'AGES' instead of 'SEGA'. But AGES is still a cool word... and the letters themselves still look uber pretty =3
Plus I saw what he was doing and corrected him before he got started on the Sonic logo on my left hand. So it all ended up good =]
